Interactive Z39.50 MARC Bib Import

  1. The control number (ISBN or ISSN) is mandatory.
  2. Leave the call number blank unless it is necessary to establish a unique call number, ie., one that is different from the one found in the retrieved MARC bibliographic record.
  3. If a call number is added, choose the appropriate classification scheme: Dewey Decimal (DDC), Library of Congress (LC), National Library of Medicine (NLM), Other.
  4. Fill in a portion of the title to help identify bibs not found.
  5. If this is a serial, check the box in front of Serial. Do not check the Serials box if adding an electronic journal unless the library also owns a hard copy.
  6. Choose a Location from the drop down menu, such as General Collection, Reference, Staff Office, etc. This attaches an item to the bib record.
  7. If bar codes are used by your library, then scan the item's bar code now into the Bar Code field.
  8. Add copy, volume, issue, or edition number if needed.
  9. The initial screen shows Control Numbers #1, #2 and #3. Use the tab key after filling in #3 to advance to #4 and so on. Notice that #4, #5, and #6 have been filled in. Scroll this tutorial page down to see the window images containing Control Numbers #4, #5, and #6. The menu will scroll up to show the most recent three Control Numbers added.
