2.53 Fields: OPAC Manager SMTP, Timeout, & Purge

2.53.1 Field 1 Function Keys

2.53.2 Field 2 Internet Domain Name:
50 characters

Purpose: To specify the Internet Domain Name for use by SMTP.

Format: It is any valid internet domain name. For example:

     cytools.com

2.53.3 Field 3 SMTP Computer Node Name:
50 characters

Purpose: To enable software to e-mail data. For example, OPAC patrons may e-mail Saved Results to themselves.

Format: It is any valid computer.domain.domain_type that performs the SMTP for the library site. For example, CyberTools uses an old PC running Linux, a form of UNIX, for its e-mail server. That computer's name is JUNK, so we use:

     junk.cytools.com

2.53.4 Field 4 OPAC E-Mail From Address:
50 characters

Purpose: To specify an e-mail return address for the SMTP services.

Format: It is typically name@domain.domain_type, or name@computer.domain.domain_type. For example,

     bitbucket@cybertoolsforlibraries.com

2.53.5 Field 5 OPAC Timeout Rate:
3 characters, mandatory, tab stop

Purpose: To set the timeout rate in minutes. If a timeout occurs, the timeout window will count down the remaining time until the patron resumes activity or the time expires, in which case the session will terminated.

Format: It is a positive integer.

2.53.6 Field 6 Save Days of Search History:
4 characters, mandatory

Purpose: To specify the number of days that the system should save OPAC search history. The value must be greater than 400 (i.e., you should keep at least a year's worth of history).

Format: It is any integer greater than 400.

Discussion: Whenever the Monthly Catalog Search Report is run, it will first remove old search histories according to the supplied value. It does not purge the compiled reports. It is necessary to remove the detail since it consumes a lot of disk space.
