2.20 How do bar codes work?
A wedge bar code reader connects between the keyboard and the PC.
When the reader scans a bar code, the reader decodes the bar code
and squirts the characters to the PC as though a person typed it.
Therefore, our software can't tell the difference between the
reader and the keyboard, and any wedge bar code reader should
work.
Compatibility issues are between the bar code labels for the
books and other materials and the patron cards: you want a bar
code reader which will handle all. In other words, don't get a bar
code reader that will decode your book labels but not your patron
labels. CyberTools does not require a specific bar code
symbology.
