Discussion:


Function [Library Name, Address, etc.] modifies the organization and catalog names, address, telephone, SMTP, fundamental server directories, and several other values fundamental to operating the catalog.


Function [Circulation Classes] allows the selection or creation of Circulation Classes which are the types of loans, e.g., One Hour, One Day, 14 days, etc. The specific lending rules are managed here, including fines.


Function [Circulation Statuses] specifies the lending state of an item, e.g., Available, On Loan, On Order, etc.


Function [Circulation Locations] specifies the places to find items, e.g., General Collection, Reserves, Reference, etc.


Function [New Item Circulation Defaults] specifies the default locations for four different types of holdings:

     - Books;  
     - Journal Issues;  
     - Audio/Visual;  
     - Acquisitions.  
  

Function [Bar Codes] specifies the bar code formats for a variety of library entities which might have a bar code, e.g., Book, Serial, Patron, etc.


Function [Circulation Messages] allows the editing of various system messages, such as the circulation block message "TOO MANY ITEMS ON LOAN: Loan request denied. This borrower currently has 15 or more items on loan. No more material may be borrowed until some material has been returned."


Function [Notice Formats] controls the static data that is printed on each circulation notice (e.g., Hold Notification, Overdues, etc.), for example, the address of the library.


Function [Notice Message Editor] specifies the text for each circulation notice.


Function [Hours] allows the maintenance of Library Hours and the entry of special days that the library is closed.


Function [Circ: Blocks, Fees, Fines & Options] specifies the limits of loans and fines, and other circulation parameters.


Function [Cataloging Defaults] helps to establish local cataloging practices.


Function [MARC Import Holdings Profiles] maps specific MARC tags and subfields to the Item Database for the purpose of (a) comparing the holdings' call numbers to the bibs and (b) for the generation of Items. It is used during conversions or to process the holdings data from a cataloging service.


Function [OPAC Manager] controls the features and the words found in the OPAC.


Function [Account Fields a Patron May Not Self-Edit] specifies which field a patron may not edit within the Patron Account window found in the OPAC.


Function [Patron Class Edit] controls the grouping to which patrons are assigned.


Function [Patron Class Listing] lists in a report all of the Patron Classes.


Function [Staff Accounts] manages the access to the Back Office via login.


Function [System Management] controls fundamental operations of the software in regards to the server and the network.
