9.17 Overview to Late Warning

The Late Warning Work Lists are created to indicate that a particular item is unusually late in arriving. They are especially useful in indicating that a new title has been ordered, but not received.

Unlike a claim, which is generated only after the next issue is received, a late warning is not dependent on a subsequent issue's arrival. Instead, it is issued after a set number of days for each frequency category has passed without the expected issue(s) being received. The defaults for the common frequency categories are:

FREQUENCY LATE DAYS FREQUENCY LATE DAYS
 -------- -------- -------- --------
 Annual 500 Triennial 300
 Bimonthly 120 Weekly 27
 Biweekly 30 BBA Frequency 30
 Daily 3 Irregular 120
 Monthly 60 Irregular (7/yr) 65
 Monogr. Series 365 Irregular (8/yr) 65
 Quarterly 180 Irregular (3/mon) 21
 Semiannual 365 Biennial 800
Semimonthly 30 Cancelled or Dead 999

The number of Late Warning Days for a given copy of a title displays and can be edited for an individual title by using the function Edit Copy.

If a frequency value for a title was not entered, a late warning value of 37 days is used. If a title is either dead or cancelled, a frequency of Cancelled or Dead can be assigned in Function Serial Copy to disable the late warning processing for that title. Cancelled or Dead titles will NOT display on claims or late warnings lists.

When the late warnings are initialized, the late warning value assigned to each frequency is loaded into each title with that particular frequency.

If there is a need to make the late warnings value for a title different than that of the assigned frequency, use function [Edit Copy] and edit field Late Warning Days. This function allows changes of the late warning day to any number between 1 and 998 (999 is reserved for Cancelled or Dead items and cannot be used). If the Permanent flag is selected, the new number will not be affected by the late warning initialization process.

This process may take several minutes, depending on the number of journal holdings being processed.
