7.1 Overview to Item Edit and Add Holdings

These windows allow serial items to be edited, and in the case of function [Add Holdings], items may be created. The items had to have been entered via functions [Issue Check In], [Add Holdings], or [Claims].

The following detailed information may be edited for a specific item: year, volume and issue numbers, complete volume flag, part, supplement, running issue, month, and day.

First, the user has to specify the target item that is accomplished via the generic Find a Serial Item window:

Once the item is selected, the Serial Item Edit window appears. Only the value pertaining to serials may be edited. The item's circulation data may be modified via the function Edit Circulation Values. This function invokes the Circulation function Item Edit.

The difference between functions [Item Edit] and [Add Holdings] is that [Item Edit] only operates on existing items, whereas [Add Holdings] only creates new items. Neither function affects a Copy's expected values.
